Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools Usage Policy
Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools Usage Policy
The Jurnal Riset Manajemen dan Bisnis Dewantara (JMD) is committed to upholding scientific integrity, transparency, confidentiality, and ethical responsibility throughout the scholarly publishing process. This policy establishes the principles and requirements governing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and AI-assisted technologies by authors, editors, and peer reviewers.
1. Use and Disclosure of AI by Authors
1.1. Disclosure Requirements
Authors must disclose any use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools or services during the preparation of their manuscripts. This requirement applies to the use of AI for language editing, grammar correction, paraphrasing, translation, summarization, improving readability, structuring text, or any other writing-related assistance.
Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and scholarly quality of their submitted manuscripts, regardless of whether AI tools have been used.
1.2. Placement of the Disclosure Statement
Authors who use generative AI tools must include a dedicated section entitled:
Declaration of Generative AI Use in the Writing Process
This section must be placed after the Conclusion and before the References in the submitted manuscript.
1.3. Information Required in the Declaration
The declaration must identify the AI tool or service used, specify its purpose, and confirm that all AI-generated or AI-assisted content has been carefully reviewed, verified, and edited by the authors.
Authors must ensure that all factual claims, references, citations, research interpretations, and other scholarly content are accurate and supported by appropriate sources. The use of AI does not exempt authors from responsibility for errors, bias, plagiarism, breaches of confidentiality, copyright infringement, or other violations of publication ethics.
1.4. Authorship and Accountability
AI tools and AI-assisted technologies cannot be credited as authors or co-authors of a manuscript. Authorship requires the ability to take responsibility for the work, disclose conflicts of interest, address questions concerning the research, and comply with applicable publication and copyright requirements. These responsibilities must be fulfilled by human authors.
1.5. Prohibition of Research Misconduct
The use of AI to fabricate, falsify, or inappropriately manipulate research data, analytical results, references, citations, images, or scientific findings is strictly prohibited. Any use of AI that compromises the validity, reliability, originality, or integrity of research is unacceptable.
Disclosure of AI use does not absolve authors of their responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and ethical compliance of their manuscripts.
1.6. Mandatory Declaration Statements
Authors must include one of the following statements in the section entitled Declaration of Generative AI Use in the Writing Process, as applicable.
When generative AI has been used:
“The author(s) used [NAME OF AI TOOL OR SERVICE] during the preparation of this manuscript to [SPECIFY THE PURPOSE, e.g., improve grammar, translate specific passages, paraphrase text, or enhance readability]. After using the tool or service, the author(s) carefully reviewed, verified, and edited all AI-generated or AI-assisted content. The author(s) take full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and content of this publication.”
When no generative AI has been used:
“Nothing to disclose.”
2. Use of AI by Editors
2.1. Permitted Scope of Use
Editors of JMD may use AI-based tools only to assist with preliminary administrative or technical tasks, such as manuscript formatting checks, similarity or plagiarism screening, and the identification of potential conflicts of interest.
Any use of AI tools must be consistent with the journal’s confidentiality requirements, publication ethics, and applicable data protection obligations. Editors must not disclose confidential manuscript content or editorial materials to unauthorized AI systems or services.
2.2. Human Oversight in Editorial Decisions
AI tools must not be used as the sole or primary basis for editorial decisions, including rejection, requests for revision, or acceptance of a manuscript.
All editorial decisions must be made by human decision-makers based on their professional expertise, critical judgment, the manuscript’s scholarly merit, the relevance and quality of the research, and the recommendations of peer reviewers where applicable.
The Editor-in-Chief, Handling Editor, and Editorial Board retain full authority and responsibility for all final editorial decisions.
3. Prohibition of AI Use by Peer Reviewers
3.1. Confidentiality of Manuscripts
All manuscripts submitted to JMD, together with review reports, research data, figures, tables, supplementary materials, and related editorial communications, must be treated as strictly confidential.
Peer reviewers must protect the confidentiality of all materials received during the review process and must not disclose them to unauthorized individuals, platforms, or services.
3.2. Prohibition on Uploading Manuscripts to AI Systems
Peer reviewers are strictly prohibited from uploading or entering submitted manuscripts, manuscript excerpts, research data, figures, tables, supplementary materials, or any other confidential review materials into public generative AI systems or external AI services for analysis, evaluation, summarization, translation, or processing.
This prohibition is intended to protect authors’ intellectual property, research confidentiality, and the integrity of the peer-review process.
3.3. Review Reports Must Be Prepared by Human Reviewers
Peer reviewers must not use AI tools to draft, formulate, rewrite, or generate review comments, recommendations, feedback, or formal reviewer reports for manuscripts submitted to JMD.
All assessments, critical evaluations, comments, and recommendations must originate from the reviewer’s own scholarly expertise, independent critical thinking, and academic judgment.
Reviewers remain personally accountable for the substance, fairness, accuracy, and integrity of their evaluations and recommendations.
4. Human Responsibility for Scientific Integrity
JMD recognizes human oversight and accountability as fundamental principles of responsible scholarly publishing. Authors, editors, and peer reviewers retain full responsibility for maintaining the originality, accuracy, confidentiality, transparency, and ethical integrity of scholarly work throughout the submission, peer-review, editorial decision-making, and publication processes.
Compliance with this policy is essential to maintaining the credibility of JMD and promoting responsible research and publication practices. Any suspected violation of this policy may be addressed in accordance with the journal’s publication ethics policies and applicable guidelines.
JMD reserves the right to request clarification regarding the use of AI tools and to take appropriate action when a violation of this policy is identified.
