Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

The Jurnal Riset Manajemen dan Bisnis Dewantara (JMD) is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal dedicated to publishing original research and scholarly contributions in management, business, accounting, finance, marketing, human resource management, strategic management, entrepreneurship, operations management, corporate governance, and related fields.

JMD is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, transparency, fairness, and ethical responsibility throughout the scholarly publishing process. Manuscripts submitted to JMD must be original, must not have been previously published in substantially the same form, and must not be under consideration by another journal at the same time, except where an explicitly approved and transparently disclosed arrangement applies.

This statement establishes the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, peer reviewers (Mitra Bestari), and the publisher. JMD's publication ethics policy is informed by the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and other applicable standards of responsible scholarly publishing.

1. Duties of Authors

1.1. Reporting Standards

Authors must present an accurate, complete, and objective account of their research and its significance. Research findings must be reported honestly, without fabrication, falsification, inappropriate data manipulation, or misleading interpretation.

Manuscripts must provide sufficient methodological detail, appropriate references, and relevant supporting information to allow readers to evaluate the research and, where applicable, reproduce or replicate its procedures and findings.

Authors must ensure that their manuscripts comply with JMD's submission guidelines and relevant ethical standards. Any limitations, methodological weaknesses, or circumstances that could influence the interpretation of the findings must be appropriately acknowledged.

1.2. Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts constitute original scholarly work and appropriately acknowledge the contributions of other researchers. Plagiarism, including the unattributed use of text, ideas, data, arguments, or research findings, is strictly prohibited.

All material derived from other sources must be appropriately cited. Direct quotations must be clearly identified, and paraphrased material must be accurately attributed to its original source.

Authors must also respect applicable copyright and licensing requirements and obtain permission for the use of copyrighted material where necessary. Manuscripts may be screened using similarity-detection software in accordance with JMD's plagiarism screening policy. Similarity reports will be evaluated contextually rather than solely on the basis of a numerical similarity index.

1.3. Multiple, Redundant, and Concurrent Publication

Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to more than one journal. Manuscripts submitted to JMD must not be under active consideration elsewhere during the journal's editorial and peer-review process.

Authors must avoid duplicate or redundant publication, including the publication of substantially overlapping research findings without appropriate disclosure and justification. Where multiple articles arise from a single research project, their distinct contributions must be clearly established, and related publications must be appropriately cited.

Any proposed form of co-publication or substantial reuse of previously published material must be disclosed to the editorial team in advance and must receive appropriate approval before publication.

1.4. Acknowledgment of Sources

Authors must acknowledge all relevant sources that have contributed to the development, design, analysis, and interpretation of their research. All data, ideas, theories, methods, and findings derived from previous publications or other sources must be properly cited.

Authors should prioritize relevant and credible scholarly sources and ensure that references accurately support the claims made in the manuscript. Citation manipulation, including the deliberate addition of irrelevant references to inflate citation counts, is considered unethical.

1.5. Authorship and Contributorship

Authorship must accurately reflect the substantial intellectual contributions of each individual involved in the research and manuscript preparation.

Authors should have made meaningful contributions to the conception or design of the research, data collection, analysis or interpretation, or the development of the manuscript, and should participate in reviewing or approving the final version and accepting accountability for the work.

Individuals who have made substantial contributions but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be acknowledged appropriately, subject to their consent. Individuals who have not made a qualifying contribution must not be listed as authors.

The corresponding author is responsible for communicating with the journal and ensuring that all listed authors have approved the final manuscript, agreed to its submission, and are aware of their responsibilities. Changes to authorship after submission must be explained and approved by all affected authors and the editorial team.

1.6. Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest and Funding

Authors must disclose all actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that could influence, or be perceived to influence, their research or its interpretation.

All sources of financial support must be identified, including grants, institutional funding, research sponsorship, and other relevant forms of support. Authors must describe the role of funders in research design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, and the decision to submit the work for publication.

A declaration of no conflict of interest or no specific funding must be provided when applicable and must accurately reflect the circumstances of the research.

1.7. Research Ethics and Data Integrity

Authors must ensure that their research is conducted in accordance with applicable ethical standards, legal requirements, and relevant institutional policies.

Research involving human participants, interviews, surveys, or identifiable personal and organizational information must comply with appropriate requirements for informed consent, confidentiality, privacy, and ethical review or approval where applicable.

Authors must protect confidential information obtained from individuals, businesses, and other organizations. The use of organizational records, financial information, or other sensitive business data must be appropriately authorized where required.

Research data must not be fabricated, falsified, selectively manipulated, or presented in a misleading manner. Authors must retain relevant research records and provide supporting information when reasonably requested by the editorial team, subject to confidentiality, privacy, and legal restrictions.

1.8. Use of Artificial Intelligence

Authors must comply with JMD's AI Tools Usage Policy. Any use of generative AI tools or services during manuscript preparation, including language editing, grammar correction, paraphrasing, translation, summarization, or readability improvement, must be disclosed in the designated section of the manuscript.

AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical compliance of all submitted content, including content produced or assisted by AI tools.

The use of AI to fabricate or falsify research data, manipulate analytical results, generate false references or citations, or misrepresent scientific findings is strictly prohibited.

1.9. Correction of Errors in Published Work

If authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in a submitted, accepted, or published manuscript, they must promptly notify the Editor-in-Chief and cooperate in assessing the issue.

Authors must provide appropriate clarification and supporting evidence and participate in any necessary correction, clarification, expression of concern, or retraction procedure in accordance with JMD's editorial policies.

2. Duties of Editors

2.1. Editorial Decisions

Editors are responsible for evaluating manuscripts based on their scholarly quality, originality, methodological rigor, relevance to the journal's scope, and contribution to management and business knowledge.

Editorial decisions to accept, reject, or request revisions must be based on academic merit, the available peer-review reports, and the journal's editorial policies. Decisions must not be influenced by commercial considerations, personal relationships, or irrelevant characteristics of the authors.

Editors may consult other qualified editors, reviewers, or subject-matter experts when additional advice is necessary. The Editor-in-Chief and designated editors retain responsibility for editorial decisions and the integrity of material published by JMD.

2.2. Initial Assessment and Peer Review

Editors must ensure that submitted manuscripts undergo an appropriate initial assessment before being sent for peer review.

Manuscripts selected for external review must be evaluated by qualified reviewers with relevant expertise. Editors must manage the peer-review process fairly, consistently, and confidentially and ensure that the journal's review procedures are clearly described in its author guidelines.

Editors must avoid appointing reviewers whose conflicts of interest could compromise the impartiality of their assessments. They must also ensure that editorial decisions are not based solely on the recommendation of a single reviewer where further assessment is necessary.

2.3. Fairness and Non-Discrimination

Editors must evaluate manuscripts objectively and without discrimination based on authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, nationality, institutional affiliation, disability, or political views.

All editorial decisions must be based on the scholarly quality and relevance of the submission and its compliance with the journal's policies and publication ethics standards.

Editors must preserve editorial independence and must not allow personal interests, institutional pressure, financial considerations, or external influence to compromise their professional judgment.

2.4. Confidentiality

Editors must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts, reviewer identities where applicable, review reports, research data, and editorial communications.

Confidential manuscript information must not be disclosed to unauthorized individuals or used for personal, professional, or financial advantage. Editors must take appropriate precautions when handling confidential information and comply with relevant privacy and data protection requirements.

2.5. Conflicts of Interest

Editors must disclose actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that could affect their editorial judgment.

Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts when conflicts arise from financial, professional, institutional, personal, competitive, or collaborative relationships with the authors or relevant organizations. Such manuscripts must be assigned to an appropriately independent editor.

Editors must not use unpublished information obtained through the editorial process for their own research or other purposes without the authors' explicit permission.

2.6. Publication Ethics and Research Misconduct

Editors must respond appropriately to allegations or evidence of plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, authorship disputes, undisclosed conflicts of interest, or other potential breaches of publication ethics.

Concerns must be assessed objectively and in accordance with JMD's applicable policies and relevant publication ethics guidance. Editors may request explanations or supporting documentation from the authors and, where appropriate, communicate with affiliated institutions or other relevant parties.

When justified by the evidence, editors may initiate appropriate actions, including rejection, correction, expression of concern, retraction, or other measures consistent with the severity of the issue.

2.7. Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence

Editors must comply with JMD's AI Tools Usage Policy. AI-based tools may be used only for permitted preliminary administrative or technical tasks, such as formatting checks, similarity screening, or identifying potential conflicts of interest.

Editors must not use AI as the sole or primary basis for editorial decisions. They must not disclose confidential manuscript content to unauthorized AI systems or services. All final editorial decisions must reflect human expertise, critical judgment, and accountability.

2.8. Complaints, Appeals, and Post-Publication Issues

Editors must handle complaints and appeals concerning editorial decisions, reviewer conduct, publication procedures, or research integrity fairly and transparently.

Where appropriate, authors must be given an opportunity to respond to substantive concerns. Editors must also facilitate corrections, clarifications, expressions of concern, or retractions when necessary to preserve the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record.

3. Duties of Peer Reviewers (Mitra Bestari)

3.1. Confidentiality

Peer reviewers must treat all manuscripts and associated review materials as strictly confidential. Manuscripts, research data, figures, tables, supplementary materials, and reviewer communications must not be disclosed to unauthorized individuals.

Reviewers must not distribute, reproduce, or use unpublished manuscript content for personal, professional, or financial advantage. Consultation with another individual is permitted only when authorized by the editor and conducted in accordance with the journal's confidentiality requirements.

3.2. Objectivity and Constructive Evaluation

Reviews must be conducted objectively, impartially, and professionally. Reviewers must provide clear explanations and evidence to support their assessments and recommendations.

Comments should focus on the manuscript's theoretical foundation, research design, methodology, analysis, interpretation of findings, originality, and contribution to management and business scholarship.

Reviewers must offer constructive feedback that helps authors improve their work. Personal criticism, discriminatory comments, unsupported allegations, and language intended to intimidate or offend authors are unacceptable.

Reviewers should distinguish essential revisions needed to substantiate the manuscript's claims from optional suggestions intended to strengthen or extend the research.

3.3. Acknowledgment of Sources and Detection of Misconduct

Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited and inform the editor when claims, arguments, methods, or findings appear to have been previously reported without appropriate acknowledgment.

Reviewers must promptly notify the editorial team of suspected plagiarism, substantial similarity to other publications, duplicate submission, inappropriate citation practices, questionable data, or other potential research or publication ethics violations.

Reviewers must provide specific evidence where possible and should not undertake independent investigations into alleged misconduct unless requested by the editor.

3.4. Conflicts of Interest

Reviewers must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that could affect their impartiality. Such conflicts may arise from financial relationships, professional competition, institutional affiliation, personal relationships, or current or previous collaboration with the authors.

Reviewers should decline invitations when a conflict cannot be adequately managed or when they lack the relevant expertise to provide a reliable assessment.

If a reviewer becomes aware of information about an author's identity that could create a conflict of interest in an anonymized review process, the reviewer must notify the editor.

3.5. Timeliness and Competence

Reviewers should accept review invitations only when they possess the necessary expertise and can complete the evaluation within the agreed timeframe.

If a reviewer cannot complete the review promptly or requires an extension, the reviewer must inform the editor as soon as possible. Reviewers should decline an invitation when they cannot provide an adequate and timely assessment.

3.6. Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence

Peer reviewers must comply with JMD's AI Tools Usage Policy. Reviewers are strictly prohibited from uploading or entering submitted manuscripts, manuscript excerpts, research data, figures, tables, supplementary materials, or other confidential review materials into public generative AI systems or external AI services for analysis or processing.

Reviewers must not use AI tools to draft, generate, formulate, or rewrite reviewer comments, recommendations, or formal review reports. All assessments and recommendations must originate from the reviewer's own scholarly expertise, critical thinking, and independent academic judgment.

Reviewers remain personally responsible for the accuracy, fairness, confidentiality, and integrity of their evaluations.

4. Duties of the Publisher

The publisher of the Jurnal Riset Manajemen dan Bisnis Dewantara (JMD) supports the journal in maintaining responsible scholarly publishing practices and safeguarding the integrity of the academic record.

The publisher must respect the editorial independence of the Editor-in-Chief and editorial team. Commercial, financial, institutional, or other external interests must not improperly influence editorial decisions or the scholarly standards applied to manuscripts.

The publisher should provide appropriate administrative and technical support for editorial operations, maintain transparent publication policies, and support the consistent implementation of JMD's policies on authorship, peer review, copyright, conflicts of interest, research misconduct, and post-publication corrections.

Where a serious publication ethics concern arises, the publisher should cooperate with the editorial team and relevant parties, as appropriate, to ensure that the matter is handled fairly and that necessary corrective measures are implemented.

The publisher must not knowingly facilitate publication practices that undermine research integrity, transparency, or ethical accountability.

5. Handling Allegations of Publication Misconduct

JMD takes allegations of research or publication misconduct seriously, whether reported before or after publication. Allegations may concern plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, duplicate publication, authorship disputes, citation manipulation, undisclosed conflicts of interest, breaches of research ethics, or other violations of the journal's policies.

When a concern is raised, the editorial team will conduct an initial assessment to determine whether further investigation is warranted. The team may request explanations, supporting records, or other relevant evidence from the parties concerned and may contact affiliated institutions where appropriate.

All cases will be handled impartially, with due consideration for confidentiality, procedural fairness, and the seriousness of the alleged violation. Appropriate action will be determined based on the available evidence rather than on unsupported allegations alone.

Possible outcomes include dismissal of an unsubstantiated allegation, a request for clarification or revision, rejection of a manuscript, publication of a correction or expression of concern, retraction of a published article, or other measures consistent with JMD's applicable policies.

6. Commitment to Publication Ethics

All parties involved in publishing with JMD share responsibility for protecting the integrity, reliability, and credibility of the scholarly record. Authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher are expected to comply with this statement and the journal's related policies, including its policies on plagiarism screening, conflicts of interest, AI tool usage, peer review, open access, and retraction, withdrawal, and correction.

The Jurnal Riset Manajemen dan Bisnis Dewantara (JMD) is committed to reviewing and improving its publication ethics practices as appropriate to developments in scholarly publishing and recognized ethical standards.
