Policy of Screening for Plagiarism

1. Plagiarism Policy

The Jurnal Riset Manajemen dan Bisnis Dewantara (JMD) is committed to maintaining academic integrity, originality, and ethical standards in scholarly publishing. All manuscripts submitted to JMD must be original, free from plagiarism, and prepared in accordance with accepted principles of academic writing and publication ethics.

Authors are strongly encouraged to use appropriate plagiarism or similarity-detection software to check their manuscripts before submission. The JMD editorial team screens submitted manuscripts using suitable similarity-detection tools, such as Turnitin or iThenticate, where available.

The maximum acceptable similarity index is 25%. However, the similarity index is an initial screening indicator and must not be used as the sole basis for determining plagiarism. Each similarity report will be evaluated contextually by the editorial team, taking into account the source of the similarity, the nature and extent of the matched text, the adequacy of citations, and the originality of the manuscript.

Similarity arising from properly cited quotations, references, standard methodological terminology, or other legitimate textual matches will be assessed appropriately. A manuscript with a similarity index below 25% may still be considered plagiarized if substantial unattributed copying or other serious violations are identified. Conversely, a manuscript exceeding the threshold may be returned for clarification or revision, depending on the circumstances and the editorial assessment.

2. Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the use or appropriation of another person's words, ideas, data, arguments, research findings, or other intellectual contributions, in whole or in part, without appropriate acknowledgment or citation.

Plagiarism may involve direct copying, inadequate paraphrasing, unattributed translation, the inappropriate reuse of another person's intellectual work, or the presentation of previously published material as original work without proper acknowledgment.

All manuscripts submitted to JMD must be original, must not have been previously published in substantially the same form, and must not be under consideration by another journal at the same time.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that all sources are appropriately acknowledged and that borrowed text, data, figures, tables, and other materials are properly cited. Paraphrasing must involve genuine reformulation and accurate attribution rather than merely replacing individual words or rearranging sentence structures.

3. Plagiarism Screening and Sanctions

When potential plagiarism is identified, the Editor-in-Chief or a designated editor will evaluate the similarity report and relevant manuscript sections to determine the nature, extent, and severity of the suspected violation. Where appropriate, authors may be asked to provide an explanation before the journal determines the appropriate action.

JMD applies the following general guidelines:

Type 1: Minor Plagiarism

Minor plagiarism involves limited unattributed text, short passages, or minor sections that do not substantially compromise the originality or integrity of the manuscript.

Action: The author(s) may receive a formal notification requesting appropriate citations, textual revisions, and clarification of the relevant material. A revised manuscript may undergo further similarity screening before the editorial process continues.

Type 2: Substantial Plagiarism

Substantial plagiarism involves the unattributed reproduction or appropriation of significant portions of another work, including text, ideas, data, arguments, or research findings. It also includes presenting another person's intellectual contribution as one's own in a manner that seriously compromises the originality or integrity of the manuscript.

Action: The manuscript may be rejected. Depending on the severity of the violation, the available evidence, and whether misconduct is repeated, JMD may impose additional measures, including temporary or permanent restrictions on future submissions to the journal.

Cases involving suspected serious misconduct will be assessed fairly and objectively. The editorial team may request an explanation from the author(s) and take further action in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies.

4. Joint Responsibility of Authors

All authors listed on a manuscript share responsibility for ensuring that the submitted work complies with JMD's originality, citation, and publication ethics requirements.

Each co-author is expected to review the manuscript and ensure that the work appropriately acknowledges the contributions of other researchers. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors are informed of the manuscript's submission and that the information provided to the journal is accurate.

When plagiarism or another ethical violation is established, the editorial team will assess the circumstances, the available evidence, and the responsibilities of the authors concerned. Appropriate action will be determined in accordance with the severity of the violation and the journal's applicable policies.

5. Duplicate and Simultaneous Submission

Authors must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to JMD and another journal. A manuscript submitted to JMD must not be under active consideration for publication elsewhere during the journal's editorial and peer-review process.

Simultaneous submission, duplicate publication, and substantial overlap with previously published work without appropriate disclosure are considered serious publication ethics concerns.

If simultaneous submission is identified before publication, JMD may reject the manuscript and consider additional action in accordance with its publication ethics policies. If the violation is discovered after publication, the journal will investigate the circumstances and determine whether further action, including a correction, expression of concern, or retraction, is warranted.

6. Editorial Authority and Further Actions

The Editor-in-Chief and the JMD editorial team are responsible for evaluating suspected plagiarism and related publication ethics violations. All cases will be assessed objectively, taking into account the available evidence, the severity of the violation, any explanation provided by the author(s), and the journal's applicable policies.

For cases not explicitly covered by this policy, JMD reserves the right to determine appropriate measures in accordance with its publication ethics guidelines and recognized standards of scholarly publishing.

Through this policy, the Jurnal Riset Manajemen dan Bisnis Dewantara (JMD) seeks to protect the integrity of the scholarly record, promote responsible research practices, and ensure that published articles meet appropriate standards of originality, transparency, and academic accountability.
