Authorship and Contributorship
JMD expects authorship to reflect meaningful scholarly responsibility for the work. All listed authors must have contributed substantially and must be able to take public responsibility for the integrity of the article.
Authorship Criteria
An author should meet all of the following criteria:
- Made a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the work, acquisition of data, analysis, interpretation, system design, implementation, or scholarly argument.
- Drafted the manuscript or critically revised it for important intellectual content.
- Approved the final version submitted and the version accepted for publication.
- Agreed to be accountable for their own contribution and to cooperate in resolving questions about the accuracy or integrity of the work.
Non-Author Contributions
Individuals who contributed to the work but do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged with their permission. Examples include administrative support, funding acquisition without intellectual contribution, language editing, data collection assistance, technical assistance, or general supervision.
Corresponding Author
The corresponding author is responsible for communication with the journal, confirming that all authors approve submission, ensuring that author information is accurate, submitting revisions, responding to ethics queries, and coordinating publication documents.
Author Order
Author order should be agreed by all authors before submission. AIJITL does not determine author order. If a dispute arises, the journal may pause review or publication until the authors' institution or research group resolves the matter.
Authorship Changes
Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors after submission must be submitted in writing by the corresponding author. The request must explain the reason for the change and include written agreement from all existing and proposed authors. Authorship changes after acceptance require careful editorial review and may delay publication.
Unacceptable Authorship Practices
- Guest authorship: naming an individual who did not make a substantial contribution.
- Gift authorship: adding an author because of position, relationship, or expectation rather than contribution.
- Ghost authorship: omitting a person who made a substantial contribution.
- Purchased or fabricated authorship: adding individuals through payment, commercial authorship services, or paper-mill arrangements.
Contributor Statement
Authors should provide a contributor statement describing each author's role. Where appropriate, the journal may use contributor role categories such as conceptualization, methodology, software, validation, formal analysis, investigation, resources, data curation, writing-original draft, writing-review and editing, visualization, supervision, project administration, and funding acquisition.
Author Action Steps
- Discuss authorship and author order before submission.
- Confirm that every listed author meets the authorship criteria.
- Obtain permission from acknowledged contributors.
- Prepare a contributor statement and submit it with the manuscript.
- Contact the editorial office immediately if an authorship correction is needed.
